Thursday, 11 February 2016 | PNS | Dehradun

A day  after the body was found, Dehradun Police claimed to have cracked the murder case involving a 55- year-old Balbeer, resident of Tilwari, Sahaspur after they arrested the deceased’s brother Jagveer on Wednesday. The police had recovered Balbeer’s body, wrapped in a sack, from Dudhai village in Sahaspur on Tuesday noon.

Police said that in course of interrogation, the accused had confessed the crime, saying that he had murdered his brother because he had been abusing his wife, daughters and other family members almost daily in inebriated state.

Police sources said that the deceased was a widower living alone in the village at Tilwari. Police had earlier thought that the five bigha land under the possession of Balbeer might have goaded his brother to murder him.

Jagveer is learnt to have revealed that he had strangled his brother Balbeer to death and dumped his body in the gorge after wrapping it in a sack.  Based on his confession, police have recovered the rope which he had used as a noose to strangle his brother.

Sandeep Chaudhary, resident of Selaqui, had informed police on Tuesday morning that some local residents who had gone to collect fodders at Dudhai, Sahaspur around 11 am had smelled a body. The body was found in a frozen state, wrapped in a sack.

Police team had reached the spot and later, the forensic team collected evidences related to the case from the spot. A case under appropriate sections of IPC was registered in the police station on Tuesday.

Following the direction of SSP, a team led by circle officer SK Singh was formed to probe the case. Sahaspur police station in-charge Mukesh Tyagi and SOG members were also included in the team. Circle officer SK Singh said that team he was leading had conducted through investigation and finally arrested the accused.
