Eight Congress MlAs led by Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati met arrested former party MlA Ramesh Jena here at the Chhatrapur Sub-Jail.
“Since the Assembly was adjourned today, we came to Brahmapur for some work. Ramesh Jena is a Congress man; so, we met him. It was completely a courtesy visit,” said Bahinipati.
The former Congress MlA, who is facing several criminal charges, was arrested in March this year and was shifted from the Brahmapur Circle Jail to Chhatrapur Sub-Jail in May after contraband was seized from his cell in the Brahmapur prison.
However, the MlAs’ meeting with Jena assumed significance as the panchayat elections are fast approaching.
