Normal life was thrown out of gear in Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday due to a 12-hour bandh called by various civil society organisations in protest against the transfer of Tirtol police station IIC Abhinab Dalua.
The protestors said Dalua was shifted revengefully as he had arrested some local BJD leaders and filed a case against Niali BJD MlA Pramod Mallick on the charge of ransacking the police station on February 7 hours before Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the IOCl Refinery at Paradip in the district.
Activists of the Tirtol Sachatan Nagarika Manch, the Janjagaran Manch, the Baristha Nagarika Manch and the Ama Police blocked the movement of vehicles at the Tirtol market and blocked roads.
They also staged picketing near the Government offices located at the Tirtol Bazaar.
All schools, colleges and other educational institutions, shops and other commercial establishments remained closed during the bandh. The roads of the town wore a deserted look as vehicles remained off the roads. Commuters unaware of the protest had a harrowing time as vehicular movement was affected.
To maintain law and order, adequate police personnel were deployed in the town.
