With a large number of pass-outs from the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) being harassed as they have not been handed over their original certificates for last three years, the State Government has asked the university authorities to immediately distribute their degree certificates.
Skill Development and Technical Education Department Principal Secretary lN Gupta has directed BPUT Vice-Chancellor Shyam Sundar Pattnaik to undertake a special drive for the purpose and ensure that all pending certificates are disbursed latest by February 15 without fail.
He has also asked for an action-taken report (ATR) from the Vice-Chancellor, official sources said.
It has come to the notice of the Government that over 58,000 students of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 batches are waiting disbursement of their original certificates.
The students are feeling harassed as the university authorities are taking alibi of delay in organising convocation ceremonies, where the certificates were to be distributed.
The last convocation was held on December 18, 2013 when and the BPUT authorities distributed 12,574 certificates in various streams.
The BPUT has generated 38,985 provisional certificates and 1,71,685 grade sheets. So, after taking approval of the Chancellor, the BPUT authorities would disburse the certificates, said an official.
Earlier during 2006, looking at the pendency of large numbers of certificates, the BPUT authorities have also distributed certificates to the students, looking at their problems.
