NIFT girl misbehaved; students block road
Bhubaneswar: local KIIT students staged a road blockade alleging misbehaviour with a girl student of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) by some unidentified youths near a ladies hostel late on Friday night. The girl doesn’t belong to the KIIT. The students claimed that the incident got recorded through a CCTV camera and examination of the video footage by college authorities can reveal the identity of the accused. Police forces have been deployed in the campus to prevent any untoward situation. However, city DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said, “No such incident took place. The girl was under medication. She is ok and denying everything. Investigation into the matter is on.”
Hindu bodies’ team meets Governor
Bhubaneswar: A delegation of Panun Kashmir, Bharat Raksha Manch and Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti met Odisha Governor SC Jamir on Saturday and handed over a memorandum on rehabilitation of Kashmiri Hindus in Kashmir. The delegation comprised Murali Manohar Sharma, Anil Dhir, Ramesh Shinde, Ravi Agarwal and Prakash Malondkar. The Bharat Raksha Manch and other Hindu organisations would hold a conference on August 8 and 9 in Bhubaneswar.
DAV Heritage Quiz held
Bhubaneswar: A State-level DAV Heritage Quiz was organised by the Quiz Club of the DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur here where 28 schools participated. Quiz Master Kunal Savarkar conducted the event. After the prelim round, six teams entered the final round where the DAV Pokhariput emerged as the champion and the BJEM and the Sai International School jointly bagged the runners-up trophy. The winning team was honoured with a rolling trophy and certificates. Principal-cum-Regional Director Dr KC Satapathy and Quiz Club teacher Sarbadaman Singh were present.
Assembly panel visits Gajapati hospitals
Paralakhemundi: A Standing Committee of the State Assembly led by MlA Surjya Narayan Patro visited various Government hospitals and Anganwadi Centres in Gajapati district on Friday. The team first visited an AWC and the Government hospital at Chandragiri. People urged the team to fill up the gynaecology post which is lying vacant at the Chandragiri hospital for long. Thereafter, the team visited the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here. The committee asked CDMO Dr Purna Chandra Kora and other doctors to provide free medicines and proper healthcare to patients.
K’pada Bol Bam devotee dies of cardiac arrest
Kendrapada: Bol Bam devotee Satyam Shivam Sundaram Samantaray (32) of Gobindapur village under the Patkura police station died on Friday due to cardiac arrest near Nemala when he was going to Kapilas to pour water on lord Shiva. He fell sick after taking water from Kalabuda. He died on the way to a local hospital.
