little Super dancers

The top five Super Dancers’ finalists, who have set the stage ablaze through their rocking performances and won the hearts of many, are all set for the grand finale next Sunday.Sangeeta Yadav brings you their journey

Ditya Bhande, 10

She is known for doing Advance Hip Hop and went through a complete transformation after coming to Super Dancers. Meet 10-year-old Ditya Bhande, who bagged many Super Se Bhi Upar remarks from Shilpa Shetty and other judges. “It has been a great learning experience as I got to explore new dance forms for the first time like Contemporary, Bollywood style and many others. I learnt how to bring poise to my dancing and express emotions through my moves. I have done different things and even those which I don’t like, for instance, make-up,” says Bhande, a Class V student of Saint Francis D’Assisi School. Hailing from Mumbai’s Nala Sopara, Bhande started learning dance at an academy and went on to teach other children in her neighbourhood. “My mother is a teacher and I taught dance to schoolchildren for their annual functions. Right now, I’m learning especially Contemporary, which is very tough to do,” she says. When asked, who has high chances of winning the show she said: “Shayad mai hee jeet jaoon.” Amen, one would say.

Masoom Narzary, 9

The youngest contestant on the show, Masoom Narzary’s claim to fame is her Masoom Wave step which she threw as a challenge to every celebrity who came on the show. So far only Rithvik Dhanjani, the show’s host has managed to do it correctly and won chocolates from her for doing so.

“I used to do the Masoom Wave on the show Geeta Maa said only Masoom can do this. Since then it became my USP,” says Masoom who hails from Guwahati and is studying in Class IV at Bethany School. Dancing happened in her life after she got fascinated watching actors dancing on television. She joined an academy. After joining Super Dancers, the only change she finds in herself is that she is taller. “I’ve grown taller after coming to Super Dancers. When I replay my audition videos of Super Dancers, I wonder how small I was. People say it’s because of the stretching workouts that our mentor makes us do,” Narzary tells you with a laugh.

Her best act was Michael Jackson. “It was my dream come true and I also got the Best Performance of the Day title. I’m sad about getting separated from my friends and mentors at Super Dancers after the show ends. I’m going to miss them a lot,” Narzary says.

Dipali Borkar, 10

Dipali Borkar is one of the lucky ones who has bagged her first daily soap much before this show comes to an end. She will be seen playing young Kashibai in the upcoming show Peshwa Bajiao.

“First, I thought they are playing a prank with me and I couldn’t believe it.  I am very happy now. Right now, my focus is Super Dancers and I feel acting bhi ho jayegi script learn kerke,” says Borkar who is a Class VI student at Jeevan Vidya English School, Pune

Her nail-biting moment was when the judges were about to announce the top four finalists. “I was nervous and scared. Out of all five, only four were supposed to go to the finals. But when Geeta Maa declared that all five contestants were finalists, we were so happy,” Borkar says.

Her most difficult performance was the aerial act which required a lot of balancing at a height. “I did the aerial act for the first time and was not able to pick up very fast. I was slipping all the time. I burnt the midnight oil to get it right and that turned out to be my best performance. I gained a lot of physical strength through practice and became more confident about doing much more. I conquered my fear of heights,” she says.

Yogesh Sharma, 12

He was known for dancing on negative numbers featuring villains in movies. But after coming toSuper Dancers, Yogesh Sharma has totally changed and is one of the most evolved dancers on the show. “My hard work has got me to the top five. I learnt new dance styles like locking and popping and lyrical hip-hop. The best thing that has happened to me is to have Vaibhav sir as my mentor. He is like an elder  brother and I get to learn a lot from him. He made me fearless and I aspire to become a choreographer like him,” says Sharma, a Class VIII student of the SB Junior High School, Mathura.

His dancing journey started after seeing actors dancing in movies. “I started learning dance by watching them on TV. When I was seven, my father spotted my talent and enrolled me in a dance school,” Sharma says.

The best moment was when Prabhudeva came on the show. “He is the best dancer and I look up to him,” he says.

laxman Kambhar, 13

For 13-year-old laxman, pursuing his passion for dancing was a big struggle as he had no support from his father. But his determination won his father’s heart who visited him on the show.  “That was the best moment. To see my father cheering me was an emotional moment for me. I’m happy that I have made him proud and won his heart,” says Kambhar who hails from Raipur, Chattisgarh.

When he got selected for the show, he had no idea how everything would unfold. “When I joined Super Dancers, I thought of learning a lot. Now I realise that time flies so fast and here I am in the Finals. Earlier, I was not able to catch the fast beat but after coming to this show, I have learnt all that,” Kambhar says.

His biggest inspiration is Dharmesh Yelande, who was the first runner-up on Dance India Dance Season 2. “Dharmesh Sir too faced a lot of struggles to make his space in the dance field and went on to do acting too. I, too, would like to make my career in dance and if I get an opportunity to participate in TV shows, I will go for it. I might start my own dance academy soon,” he says.
