Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh and his wife Gurcharan Kaur are likely to cast their votes in Guwahati on Monday.
A spokesman of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) confirmed this on Sunday and said that Singh and his wife will cast his vote at the
Dispur Government High School at Dispur area of the city.
“Singh and his wife are expected to reach the polling station at Dispur Government High School around 1 pm. After casting their votes, they would go to Brahmaputra guest House for sometime and leave for New Delhi the same evening,” the APCC spokesman said.
Sing and his wife Gurcharan Kaur are voters of Dispur legislative Assembly in Assam.
While Singh’s serial number in the electoral roll is 570, his wife’s name is listed as serial number 571 in the electoral roll. According to the electoral rolls, the address of the former Prime Minister is House No 3989, Sarumotoria, Guwahati, Assam.
It may be mentioned that Singh has been representing Assam in the Upper House since 1991.
Former Assam Chief Minister late Hiteswar Saikia offered him a Rajya Sabha seat from Assam after he became the Union finance minister. Saikia also made him a tenant in his house located at Sarumotoria locality in Guwahati.
Singh’s address in his nomination papers still mention his address as—’a resident of house Number 3989, Nandan Nagar, Village: Sarumotoria, Guwahati-781006’.
On May 30, 2013 Singh got elected to the Rajya Sabha for the fifth straight term.
