A team of Election Commission of India’s (ECI) expenditure observers have raided the residence of Assam Agriculture Minister Rockybul Hussain at Panjabari area in Guwahati on Wednesday evening.
Hussain, termed the move of the expenditure observers as a political conspiracy against him and said that he would explore legal option against the move.
“It is not only a political conspiracy against me but an attempt to terrorise the Congress party workers ahead of the forthcoming polls,” said Hussain while addressing a hurriedly organised press conference at Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhavan in the city today evening.
The a senior official from Chief Electoral Officer Assam confirmed that the raid was conducted by ECI’s expenditure observer assisted by sleuths of Revenue Intelligence. “We cannot say anything as the raid has been continuing,” said the official on condition of anonymity.
Hussain alleged that the expenditure observers stopped his vehicle just outside his home and searched his vehicle without revealing their identities despite his repeated requests. “later they raided my house. I cooperated with them and came to Rajiv Bhavan with my wife and son,” said Hussain while adding that he would explore legal option against the move of the election observer.
“I am going to file an FIR soon and take up the matter at proper forum after discussing with my counsel,” said Hussain.
