What brought you to DelhiIJ
I was here to watch Paresh Rawal’s fantastic play Krishan vs Kanhaiya. I had seen his movie Oh My God and wanted to watch the play as well as it has been getting rave reviews. Theatre has always been special to me. Ever since I was in the Class III, I was doing theatre. But when I joined college, acting was overtaken by fashion designing. I then specialised in jewellery and accessory designing. My cousins did a lot of theatre and I used to enjoy watching their shows.
Your debut movie Second Hand Husband didn’t do well at the box office....
That was due to the lack of proper publicity. Not many knew about the movie. We had the best of people on board from Punjab whether it is the director Smeep Kang or actors like Dharmendra or Gippy Garewal. If you make a good product and if you don’t tell people about it, how will it get soldIJ But at the international platform, I bagged a lot of kudos for my performance. The film has done good to me.
Any advice dad Govinda gave youIJ
He is someone I can just talk my heart out. He is not a strict father, but really cool and supportive. He told me if I look pretty and people appreciate me in films, I will be good as an actor. As an actor, everything is not in my hand. A lot of things are in the producers and director’s hand. I can just do my job and come home.
Your cousins Krushna Abhishek and Ragini Khanna have been in the industry from some time. Did you talk to them about your debutIJ
I’m close to Krushna and take his advice seriously. Before I went for the film, he told to just have fun. He felt if I didn’t have fun doing the film, people would not have fun watching it. When Ragini and I meet, we never discussed work.
What nextIJ
Talks are on and hopefully we’ll start my next film by next year. At present, I’m doing a lot of appearances in creative shows like theatre, art exhibitions etc.
Who do you look up in acting and designer industryIJ
My idols are Raj Kapoor and Yash Chopra. They used to present their actresses as strong and glamorous individuals. A far as jewellery and accessorising is concerned, Sanjay leela Bhansali is the best filmmaker who really dolls up his actresses well. From the fashion fraternity, Mahish Malhotra is my all time favourite. He is evergreen and rock solid.
Any plans of working in Bollywood as fashion or jewellery designerIJ
Right now it’s too early for me to think about that because my focus has shifted to acting which I really enjoy. But, given an opportunity I’ll definitely be interested. I know what I can create and what my style is.
