To promote adventure tourism and dispel doubts in the minds of tourists about their safety in Uttarakhand after the Kedarnath disaster, the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) is organising two trekking expeditions in the State.
Informing the media persons here on Thursday about these expeditions, the president of Uttarakhand unit of YHA, Devendra Bhasin said the National Himalayan Trekking expedition ‘Har ki Doon’ would commence from next month.
He informed that the expedition involves nine days and eight nights and covers Sahastradhara (base camp), Sakri, Taluka, Seema track, ‘Har ki Doon’, Jaundhar Glacier and Borinda lake.
Bhasin said that more than 1,000 youth across the country have already applied for the expedition which would cost only Rs4,250. The YHA plans to send a group of 40 trekkers’ everyday from April 5 on this expedition. The president of YHA informed that another trekking expedition ‘National Himalayan Valley of Flowers-2015’ would be organised from July 25.
This expedition would cost Rs6,750 to a trekking enthusiast and would commence from Rishikesh which is the base camp. The expedition traverses through Joshimath, Oli, Govindghat, Ghangharia, Valley of Flowers, Badrinath and Vasudhara falls. To members of YHA rued the fact that very less youths from Uttarakhand are participating in the adventure activities.
Bhasin said YHA would provide financial concessions to ten youths from the state in the ‘Har ki Doon’ trekking expedition. He claimed that adventure tourism has a bright future in the state and this field should be promoted.
