UPSC results: J'khand talents shine

Similar to previous years, young students of the State maintained an remarkable record in the final result of Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2014 declared on Saturday.Overall 10 State candidates managed ranks in the top 500. Jamshedpur girls Neha and Neha Kumari became the State toppers by grabbing the 22 and 26 ranks respectively. The third rank was secured by Ritu Raj of Sahibganj.Ranchi’s Shantanu was the fourth State topper with 89 rank while Aditya Ranjan of Bokaro became the fifth topper with 99 rank.Sreejan Shandilya of Ranchi got 106 rank followed by Amrita Sinha in the 238 rank. Even the 400 rank holder Nitin was from Ranchi. Bokaro’s Ajit Kumar Ranjan got 466 rank with Ranchi’s Kunal Kumar, Naman Priyesh lakra and Jyoti Kapoor in the 458, 528 and 1032 ranks.

State topper Neha achieved the honour with her third attempt in the CSE last year. Earlier, she had qualified the examination twice but failed to pass after facing the interview. Her father Dilip Singh is a Civil Engineer in Jamshedpur.A former student of Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Neha Kumari qualified the prestigious examination in her first attempt. “I always dreamt to pass the UPSC and it was this reason I quit my Managerial job of TISCO in 2014 and went Bangalore for the preparations,” she said.

Her father VN Dubey is working in Tata Motors and mother is a home maker. While, younger brother is a student of IIT Kharagpur and younger sister is a student of BIT Mesra.State’s third topper Ritu Raj is son of Gokul Prasad Singh, Chief Ticket Collector in Sahibganj Railway.Fourth topper Shantanu, son of Ramanuj Sharma, Hindi Professor in GlA College, Daltonganj and Nilamber Pitamber University’s Political Science Professor Anita Sinha felt morally and mentally rewarded with the achievement. It was his second attempt. He failed to pass the first attempt in the CSE Mains in 2013. “I framed my opinions by following the newspapers regularly. Also, I kept a watch on the news presented by different reporters. These tricks helped me in qualifying the exams this year. My aim to serve the society with an IAS tag is fulfilled,” he said. Shantanu has an elder sister named Shambhavi Sharma.

Both Shantanu and Sreejan were batchmates in Class XI and XII in JVM Shyamali.The bond remained same in BITS Pilani where they pursued under graduation. Interestingly, Sreejan is son of Ranjana Choudhary, Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (JSCPCR) member. His father is an Executive Engineer in PWD and has a younger sister Sreeja.His mother Ranjana Choudhary said that his friends call him ‘Quiz Topper’ since he was doing his primary education in St Xavier’s School, Doranda. “My son was never studious but was intelligent. He used to study for 7 to 8 hours during UPSC preparation,” Choudhary pointed.

The 400th rank holder Nitin is son of Ranchi University’s (RU) Academic Staff College Director AK Choudhary. The 458 ranker Kunal is son of former RU Examination Controller cum Mathematics Professor AK Mahto. The 528 ranker Naman is son of a bank manager. Jyoti, the 1032 rank holder, a student of JNU, is daughter of Sub-Inspector Raj Kapoor posted in Gumla.With inputs from Parvinder Bhatia in Jamshedpur
