Monday, 22 June 2015 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Movement of trains were disrupted in the Chakradharpur and other divisions of South Eastern Railway (SER) on Sunday due to a railway block (in railway parlance it means halt in rail traffic) which had to be undertaken due to commissioning of a subway between Chharrah and Purulia railway station in Purulia-Adra section.

Railway officials at Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway said that the commissioning work resulted in cancellation, short termination and diversion of several trains. The Tatanagar-Dhanbad Subernarekha Express also ran on a diverted route via Purulia-Bokaro Steel City Rajabera-Chandrapura-Dhanbad instead of  Purulia-Adra and Dhanbad.

The Danapur-Tatanagar Express ran on a diverted route via Joychadipahar-Adra-Kharagpur-Tatanagar instead of Jaychandipahar-Purulia-Chandil and Tatanagar.

The Tatanagar station assumes importance in view because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
