SSP: Making police force professional top priority

Friday, 09 October 2015 | MANOJ KUMAR | Dehradun

Newly-appointed Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Sadanand Shankar Rao Date said that his priority would be to make the police force professional. Steps will be taken to make police more responsive, pro-active and people-friendly, he said, adding that people should reach the police station without the least hesitation when they feel that approaching police is the only option left to them to have their grievances redressed.  The 2007 IPS officer Dr Date served as ASP/SP in Haridwar and Nainital. He was made SP of Uttarkashi. He also served as SSP in Nainital and Haridwar. Before assuming charge as Dehradun SSP, he was posted as assistant IG at police head quarters.

“We would ensure that FIRs are lodged in the police station concerned once a complainant approaches the police station. Apart from controlling crimes, emphasis will be laid on improving traffic situation in the state capital,” he said.

Dr Date made it clear to the police personnel that the department expects the police officers to be loyal towards laws and responsible. “Besides, they must try by all means to build an enduring and warm police- public partnership to revive public confidence in us,” he added.

Referring to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) that has been pressed into service in  Dehradun district,  he said  one can visit the website -ukpolicecitizenportal.uk.gov.in/citizen/login.aspx and and can register their complaints after filling necessary information, including mobile number. “Dehradun district has been selected as a pilot district for the implementation of the scheme. Apart from creating awareness about the scheme, steps will be taken to make the scheme operational and friendlier,” he stated.

He said crimes would be controlled through intensified patrolling.

“We would do everything to stop crimes against women,” Date said.

He said the department’s failure to strengthen the network of informers is causing a spurt in crimes and delaying murder cases being cracked swiftly. Moreover, with the advancement in technology, offenders are taking all precautions before committing crimes, he said.

“We will lay emphasis on making network of informers stronger aside from making the police department adequately tech savvy to deal with the new trend of crimes,” SSP said.

Beat police will be directed to be in contact with the locals and keep an eye on the people’s movement in their assigned areas. They must be vigilant too regarding the anti-social elements to nip chances of crimes in the buds, he added.
