The fight for power and rule a country among the leaders has always proved to be hazardous for the public. With this note, a Hindi play ‘Singhasan Khali Hai’ was staged here on Friday at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium.
Directed by a veteran theatre artiste Obaid Ullah Khan, the play was written by Sushil Kumar Singh and was splendidly performed by the artistes of Karavaan Theatre Group, Bhopal.
The story revolves around three sides of a triangle, the leader, the politician and the common man. The play begins with the narrator where he points the vacant throne. The narrator tells the audience that this chair or throne needs a leader as it is vacant. He shouts and calls for the candidate and there comes a voice saying that he is the appropriate candidate to rule the country. This voice of a woman who represents the common people and from here the play takes a quick start.
Slowly and gradually when more people come and claim to be the best candidate for ruling the country, the narrator takes the audience into ancient times, where the king ruled the people. The king was selfish and through his corrupted mind tries to do benefit to himself and killing the trust of the people.
As the narrator brings all the characters back to the present times, he says that from ancient time people are being fooled in the name of democracy and now it is time to stand up and choose the right person as a leader comes from a common man only. later, a person claiming to be the best one is elected but all other corrupted politicians tries to attack him and on this question the play ends.
The artists of the play stole away the show. The matured acting skills and the symbolising strategy to presenting the play left the audience mesmerised.
