No matter what, but if you are playing, emerge as a winner,” says Bhopal District Roller Skating Association secretary and coach Sanjay Mishra. Being a skating coach for a decade, Mishra has a different and passionate approach towards the game and the same, he teaches his students. While in a rendezvous with The Pioneer, Mishra not only shared his experiences but also unveiled the essence behind being a good trainer.
As Mishra is considered to be one of the best coaches of the city, he believes in a positive approach towards sportsmanship. He continuously inculcates this approach in his students as well. Talking about it, he shared the mantra of being a good sportsperson. He says, “Being a good sportsperson, one has to showcase his or her skills to the fullest, must follow the technique, should do workout and most importantly, should have a keen interest in sports. And all these tendencies come after continuous practice.”
Adding to this, he says, “I do not train my students to only love skating but I ask them to develop an interest in other sports, especially football. With adopting such interest, they will emerge as better players.” Under his training, the students of Bhopal has glorified the name of the city in various prestigious skating competitions, may it be State, national or international championships. “I endeavour to train the best to my students so that they can showcase the best performance in all the tournaments.”
While sharing his experiences, he said, “We have participated in various tournaments and I have learned a lot in these tournaments and this keeps us motivated. Moreover, I believe that from each tournament we have learned something or the other. So it is a continuous learning process for me and my students.” Instead of witnessing bad experiences one should not stop but keep moving, Mishra added.
Notably, Mishra is working as a Physical Education teacher in Campion School and in evening as a trainer for the young skaters. All the skaters are being trained at Campion skating rink. Amazingly, the young skaters are continuously displaying their best performances in all the tournaments but sadly they do not have a proper skating rink in the city.
Over this, Mishra says, “Talking about a proper skating rink! I would say that there is no skating rink in the city because of which the students cannot practice properly. We go for the tournaments two to three days before so that the students can practice. It is really saddening that we practice at the basket ball court.” Elaborating further he said, “We already had a word with MlA Rameshwar Sharma and soon a meeting the sports minister will be fixed. I am keeping the fingers crossed for the best.”
He signed off saying, “It is the hard-work of parents and students that we are winning medals in most of the tournaments. But I would say that the government should get involved on a grand scale to provide these young skaters with good facilities.” No doubt the future of these skaters is very bright, he added.
