Roti bank begins at Hazaribagh

Monday, 14 September 2015 | RR Srivastava | Hazaribagh

When all the banks were closed, a new bank was inaugurated by some respected denizens of Hazaribagh in Sadar Hospital campus on Sunday. The word bank is associated with its name, but it is different from the banks we know. It is Roti (Bread) Bank.

There will be depositors and withdrawers like other banks associated with this unique Roti Bank, but they will be different. Here the depositors will get blessings, self-satisfaction, joy of giving and immense pleasure in return to their deposit while the withdrawer will get satisfaction and a sense of feeling that he too should work for the society as per his or her capacity.

The Roti bank is the brainchild of famous duo of Md Khalid and Tapas Chakravorty, the founders of Murda Kalyaan Samiti, a well-known organisation serving the society for a decade. With the help of this bank, they want to add new dimension to their ongoing social services and works.

Talking to The Pioneer, Md Khalid said that during more than a decade of social service, we have seen many people passing sleepless nights due to empty stomach during bad times or tragic incidents. In Hazaribagh’s Sadar Hospital, it is a most common scene that attendants with patients somehow arranges food for the patient and passes night with the help of water only. It led us to do something for such people and the idea of Roti Bank came to our mind.

From Monday, this bank will start functioning. We had arranged some pots to collect rotis. last week, we visited almost all the private and Government schools of the town with an appeal to the students that from Monday bring one roti more in your tiffin for the needy persons. We will collect the rotis from the schools and distribute it among the needy persons.

The initial response is encouraging for the duo as CRPF Commandant Munna Kumar Singh has announced that every day, 25-30 rotis will be given to this bank by their unit. Many capable denizens have also decided to deposit rotis in this bank every day. The journey of this unique bank is going to begin and now it needs only good wishes for success.
