The Nuasahi Mahaveer Social Organisation has written a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urging him to direct concerned officials to cancel the demolition plan for the Nuapalli Kalyan Mandap here.
In the letter, secretary of the body Milan Kumar Paikaray mentioned that nearly one lakh people in and around Nayapalli depend on the Mandap for marriage and Brataghar. The community hall at Unit-VIII, which is being considered as an alternative, is irrelevant. The community hall can serves only 500 to 800 people at once as against 3,000 to 5,000 in the Kalyan Mandap. Besides, the community hall has poor parking facilities, added Paikaray.
Notably, the booking of the Mandap has been stooped as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has decided to build its head office at the place by demolishing the Kalyan Mandap. “If the BMC shift its head office to the place at Nayapalli, the local people will face a lot of difficulties due to traffic jam,” he added.
Paikaray demanded that the Chief Minister direct the BMC through the Bhubaneswar Devlopment Authority (BDA) for reoperation of the Mandap. The body said it would take help from the High Court in the coming week if the Mandap doesn’t get reopened forthwith.
