With extending the pension cover to the labourers now, the Congress-led State Government continues its programme of reaching out to the people living on the margins of the society through certain social overtures. Under this pension scheme, free of cost registration of labourers is presently going on in the State. The woman labourers can also apply for registration to avail this pension scheme.
Details about the pension scheme can be obtained from the officials of the labour Department. An amount of Rs 1,000 would be given to the eligible applicants per month as pension under this labour pension scheme. Registration with the labour Department is also necessary for becoming eligible for availing various other social schemes, the officials maintained.
This is an effort on the part of the Government to help the labourers attain self-reliance, said State labour Minister Harish Chandra Durgapal. Talking about the pension scheme meant for the labourers, the State labour Minister said that to implement this pension scheme, Rs 20 cr has been allocated presently under the revolving fund.
At the same time, the State labour Minister has also directed the labour Department to ensure cent per cent registration of the labourers so that all the labourers could be covered under the pension scheme. Notably, in a bid to improve their financial position, the Harish Rawat Government had also launched a pension scheme for the farmers of the hill State from August 15, 2014.
Officials said more than 7,000 farmers have so far been covered under the kishan pension scheme across the State. Since farmers and labourers share the major chunk of the total populace of the hill State, it is believed that the social welfare schemes like the kisan pension scheme and now the labour pension scheme would go a long way to cover maximum number of people in the long run.
Some other pension schemes, meant for the elderly, widows and differently-abled persons are already in the circuit.
