'Rajkishore Nayak was man of principles'

Gandhian philosopher, former Patkura MlA and father of Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak late Rajkishore Nayak was a man of principles and simplicity. Being an MlA for twice, he had never accepted any privileges meant for him during his tenure, opined former senior Advisor of the Planning Commission of India and Gandhian scholar Bhagaban Prakash at a memorial lecture on Nayak here on Sunday.

Terming Nayak as ‘Patkura Gandhi’, Prakash said Nayak had not separated politics from principles. He was a true Gandhian leader by spirit and ideology, he added. late Nayak, who was also the chairman of the Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board for twice, had a lot of contributions towards promotion of Khadi in the State.

The memorial lecture was organised by the Rajkishore Nayak National Foundation in commemoration of the 5th death anniversary of Nayak. This year’s topic of the memorial lecture was ‘100 Years of Gandhiji’s Return to India’. Eminent poet Padma Vibhushan Sitakant Mahapatra inaugurated the event.

As the chief speaker, Secretary of the Central Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, New Delhi Ramachandra Rahee spoke on Mahatma Gandhi’s works and contributions to India’s Independence after returning to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915. He spoke on the Noncooperation Movement, Salt March, Quit India Movement and Swaraj movement by Gandhiji.

Among others, foundation president Bhabani Charan Pattanaik and columnist Adhyapak Biswaranjan were present.
