Punjab Government has decided to set up Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Women at Mohali on the pattern of Maharaja Ranjit Singh armed forces preparatory institute.
A spokesman said after the success of Maharaja Ranjit Singh armed forces preparatory institute, the Government had decided to establish a special preparatory institute to train young girls to attain maximum job opportunities in the defense forces. He said the institute would be named in honour of the great Sikh warrior Mai Bhago to encourage young girls of the State to follow the example set by the legend.
The new institute, which would follow world standards, would be established on an eight acre plot of land at Mohali. The spokesman added that this institute would have State of art facilities including smart class rooms, air conditioned auditorium, library, Swimming pool, play grounds, horse riding court and shooting range.
The institute would be fully residential to impart training to students from across the State. A well qualified ex-lady army officer or wife of an army officer having experience in managing hostel facilities for women would be deployed as hostel administrator.
The institute would be headed by a women director having army or administrative experience. An official said Punjab Government had already called for applications for the post and would prefer a capable administrator with jest for outdoor, adventure activities and high leadership qualities.
