Aadim Vichar directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra has been selected as the best Odia film in 62nd National Film Award, 2014 in regional category announced recently by Director of Film Festival. The award ceremony will be held on May 3 next in New Delhi. After a gap of eight long years, an Odia film won the national award. Prashant Nanda directed Jianta Bhuta was awarded for best film on environment and conservation for 2008.
Aadim Vichar is a sequel of Sala Budha which was also selected for the Indian Panorama section in 2013. It is an adaptation of short stories by Kapil Prasad Mohapatra, the father of the director. Earlier this film was also inducted for IFFI-2014. It focuses on the rural area. It is an attempt to show the plight of aged people in the western part of Odisha (in the villages) in the form of a movie. The film revolves around life and style of Kandha. The shooting of the film was done in interior parts of Boud and Phulabani districts. The movie was produced by Susanta Mohapatra and Chintu Mohapatra while the 85-year-old Atala Bihari Panda played the role of Kandha.
After the announcement of the award, director Sabyasachi Mohapatra said, “This year as many as five Odia films had participated in the 62nd National Film Awards and I’m happy that Aadim Vichar was finally picked up.” Filmmaking is not like fast food that you put it in the machine and the cooked food will come out. Make it your passion and not an overnight profit making venture, he said.
