No confidence: Rift in Rashtriya Shikshak Sangh comes to fore

Differences within Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS), the association of Government school lecturers of the State has come to fore on Thursday when the representatives of the Garhwal division of Sangh passing out a no confidence motion against the State committee headed by Karnel Singh.

The representatives of Garhwal division met at State capital under the leadership of Divisional President RS Chauhan. In the meeting it was decided that since the term of State committee is over it should immediately stop functioning. The members unanimously passed a resolution of no confidence. The meeting was attended by Divisional secretary Ramesh Painyuli and other office bearers V S Rawat and Kundan Singh Negi.

The district president of Dehradun unit of RSS N S Bisht told The Pioneer that the term of the state committee has expired in the month of August and despite regular demand the President and General Secretary are not holding the elections. He said that the general secretary S S Chauhan is clinging to his post even after his retirement.

When contacted the state President of RSS Karnel Singh ridiculed the decision of no confidence by the divisional committee of the RSS. He said that it has no constitutional right to pass such a motion. Singh said that certain vested interests are trying to create an environment of confusion within the ranks of the teaching community.

He informed that the elections of five district units of RSS are pending which should be done on priority. Singh claimed that the elections of state unit would be held in the month of May and efforts would be made to ensure the presence of state Chief Minister Harish Rawat in the state convention.

The term of state unit ended in the month of August. The former Education director C S Gwal had directed the state committee to hold its elections without delay but his direction failed to evoke any response. The present director R K Kunwar too had asked the RSS to organize the elections till January 20.
