Chief Secretary Rajiv Gauba has stressed on the need to convert huge stretch of barren and fallow land into agricultural and tasked the Agriculture Department to find ways for that.
The CS while reviewing the activities of the department on Friday also said to enhance scope for irrigation facilities.
“Direction has been given to find ways to convert vast barren land into productive land. lacks of hectares of land laying fallow in the State can be brought into farm land which would enhance agricultural productivity many times,” said a senior official of the Agriculture Department after the review meeting.
The CS also directed the officials to draft long, medium and long term plans for increasing production of food grains, oilseeds and legumes in Jharkhand. For irrigation efforts would be made for check dams, lift irrigation system, renovation of tanks, community water tank, deep boring and drip irrigation in various parts of the State.
He would also conduct sample study of the irrigation projects continuing at the moment.
Agriculture Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni presented work plan for 12th and 13th five year plans (2014-2022) and undated the CS that 68,000 farmers have been included into the ‘kissan portal’.
