With lack of unity among Congress party bigwigs, it seems that the fresh allegations that were levelled against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan a few days ago would not be taken forward.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, former Union Ministers Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, PCC chief Arun Yadav and leader of the Opposition Satyadev Katare were present during the press conference at which it was alleged that the Excel sheet in which 'CM' was mentioned 48 times was replaced with other names, in the MPPEB scam.
Ironically, former leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh was absent from the joint press conference.
Soon after the press conference, all the regional satraps left Bhopal, despite the fact that there were no pressing engagements outside Bhopal. Particularly, Nath and Scindia were expected in the State Capital to accelerate the attack on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Notably, in the past three elections, Assembly polls in 2013, lok Sabha elections in 2014 and the urban bodies' polls held recently, the Congress could not prove its presence. Factually, the Congress lacked a dynamic leader like Shivraj Singh Chouhan and despite fielding all the senior leaders for campaigning, the Congress could not move further.
In such a situation, this is a golden opportunity for the Congress to take on Shivraj. However, learning a message from the joint press conference, the Congress members in the State Assembly seemed united and being quite short in number, they did not allow Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to speak out when he was to reply the discussion on Governor's address.
With the mounted pressure by Congress leaders in the State, an FIR was registered against Governor Ramnaresh Yadav and the State Government allowed him safe passage to leave Bhopal. Besides, the session of the State Assembly was adjourned sine die, by passing the budget without discussion on it.
Political observers feel that the situation would have something else, if the attacks of Congress bigwigs continued by being in Bhopal. The regional satraps still need to continue with the message of unity, which would certainly charge the atmosphere in Madhya Pradesh.
