Confusions prevailed at Budget presentation in Cuttack Municipal Commission (CMC) council on Friday leading to pandemonium and Opposition Congress corporators sitting on a dharna.
While it was slated that only Budget would be presented on the day and discussion on it would be held at a later date, Mayor Anita Behera allowed discussions on it that invited strong reactions from opposition members.
Many Corporators alleged that they are first timers and not accustomed with the business of the council and hence should be given more time to study the budget papers before expressing views on it.
When the Mayor insisted to carry on the discussions, the Congress corporators opposed it by disrupting the procedures. Realising her mistake, the Mayor relented and fixed March 6 next for the discussion on the budget that was presented on the day.
A surplus budget of Rs40 crore was presented on the day in which it has been estimated that the civic body would generate revenue worth a little less than Rs296 crore and the annual expenditure have been pegged at Rs256 crore.
