A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced concern over the declining sex ratio in 100 districts of the country and pitched for a campaign to save girls through the social media, the Haryana Government on Monday announced to promote ambitious Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme in a big way across the State.
With an aim to spread awareness about BBBP launched by the Prime Minister, the Haryana Government has decided to display the logo of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at all its Government offices and public places across the State, said a Government’s spokesperson on Monday.Inspired by a Sarpanch in Haryana, the Prime Minister had on Sunday during his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on radio, urged people to share selfie with their daughters in order to promote ‘BBBP’ campaign.
Haryana, the state with skewed sex ratio was chosen by the Central Government for the nationwide launch of ‘BBBP’ scheme, an initiative to ensure survival, protection and empowerment of the girl child. 12 districts of Haryana are covered under BBBP are Mahendragarh, Jhajjar, Rewari, Sonepat, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Rohtak, Yamunanagar, Kaithal, Bhiwani and Panipat.The sex ratio in Haryana was 877 girls per 1000 boys till November last year, higher than 833 girls per 1000 boys in 2011. The sex ratio in the state is 837, in the below six years of age category.
A spokesman of Haryana Government said that the logo of BBBP would be displayed in all bus stands, railway stations, hospitals including private, government and private schools and colleges, industrial training institutes, corporate sector, cooperative banks, offices of Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Block Development Officer and all other offices of the state government.
He said that it had also been decided to print logo of BBBP alongwith tagline on all the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material prepared by the various departments of the State government.Earlier, Haryana Government had decided to rope in artists, educational institutions like schools and colleges for launching a special campaign in all 21 districts of the state to spread awareness about BBBP.Special cultural programmes was planned to be organized in all 21 districts and 125 blocks in the state from April onwards. The campaign will continue till September this year.
