Various works amounting to Rs161 crore have been approved so far for the Ardh Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar next year. Addressing the media here on Friday, Urban Development secretary DS Garbyal said that chief secretary N Ravishankar had chaired a meet of the high powered committee formed for the Ardh Kumbh. “Works amounting to Rs135 crore had already been passed in the past so presently the cost of sanctioned works is about Rs161 crore. At present out priority is to get the various required works approved by March 31,” he said.
The Mela officer S Murugesan said that the temporary works to be undertaken for the Ardh Kumbh include the setting up of 30 plus parking sites, five camping sites and 21 semi-permanent bridges to be used for connecting the camping sites to be set up on river islands. The semi-permanent bridges will be dismantled after about five months, to be used later where needed, he added.
