CM lays stone for sports complex
Sambalpur: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday laid the foundation stone of a Rs 25 crore sports complex, funded by the Mahanadi Coalfields ltd (MCl). The proposed world-class sports complex will come up on NH-6 at Burla near here. It will have a swimming pool of international standard and a water sports centre with a multipurpose indoor hall, a stadium with athletic track and a football field and a peripheral jogging track, 50-bed four-seater hostels each for boys and girls and accommodation/guesthouse facility for staff, foreign coaches and scientists.
Jindal School girl wins Kenken Int’l event
Barbil: Devika Pillai, a student of Class-VI of OP Jindal School, Soyabali, Barbil has been declared as the National Champion of the Kenken International Championship, which is one of the biggest puzzle competitions in India. She, along with three other students, will represent India in the International Round of the Kenken International Championship to be held in New York. She is the only student from Easter India. Devika is daughter of Suresh Kumar, Headmaster and Sreelekha Pillai, teacher of OP Jindal School.
RSP gets int’l nod to make shipbuilding steel
Rourkela: The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has received approvals from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the Det Norske Veritas-Germanischer lloyd (DNV-Gl) for producing ship building grades of steel. This approval is for both ordinary as well as high strength grades of steel. Notably, ABS and DNV-Gl are the ship building classification societies for certification of materials used for the manufacture of ships. The ABS certificate is valid for 5 years till December 10, 2019 while the DNV-Gl certificate is valid till June 30, 2019. Besides, the RSP is already approved by the lloyds Register for producing lR grade plates.
Talk on rolling tech in Hot Strip Mill held
Rourkela: The Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela local Centre organised a talk on the rolling technology of strips in Hot Strip Mill on Thursday. Deputy General Manager in-charge of the Hot Strip Mill, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) P Murli defined rolling as the process of plastically deforming metal for getting a desired shape by passing it between two rolls. He also explained about rolling basics and rolling terminology like hot and cold rolling, crystallisation temperature, long products, flat products, rolled product class terminology, etc.
