Following nine more deaths due to swine flu on Friday, toll in Gujarat has reached 256 since the beginning of the year 2015, which is highest in the country.
Neighbouring Rajasthan is followed by Gujarat with 251 people succumbing to the disease. According to the State health department data, over 4,100 people have infected by the H1N1 virus in Gujarat till Friday evening.
The State Government has already invoked Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code prohibiting assembly of four or more persons in several districts and disallowed public meetings or rallies. As part of precautionary measure, many educational institutions have declared a 10-day holiday and events at all Government and private venues in the worst-affected cities have been cancelled.
On Friday, 212 fresh cases of swine flu reported from across the State. However, the State health department officials were hopeful that with the gradual rise in temperature as the summer months close in, spread of swine flu will be checked. Ahmedabad district is worst hit by the H1N1 virus followed by desert district Kutch.
