UGC expert panel on Defence studies: min
New Delhi: The UGC has set up an expert committee to review the existing syllabus of Defence and strategic studies in the country, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told the lok Sabha on Friday. In a written reply, he said that the DRDO collaborates with various universities and academia to impart specialised education in the field of Defence and strategic studies to provide skilled manpower to domestic Defence industries in the country.
‘Never sought debate on secular, socialist’
New Delhi: Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday denied in the lok Sabha that he had ever sought a debate on the words ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ in the Constitution’s Preamble, an issue which had triggered a controversy.
Chinese military delegation in India
New Delhi: A 12-member Chinese military delegation arrived in Mumbai on Friday and will hold talks with top Defence Ministry officials here on Saturday. The Chinese delegation is led by Gen Zhang Youxia, Head of General Armament Department of Peoples liberation Army and member of the Central Military Commission.

Bill on PIO, overseas citizenship tabled
New Delhi: A Bill seeking to merge Person of Indian Origin and Overseas Citizenship of India was introduced in lok Sabha on Friday amid resistance from a RSP member. MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju introduced the Bill which he said will fulfill the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York to Indian diaspora about the merger of the two schemes.
Nadda stresses on safe drinking water
New Delhi: With thousands of habitations being affected by water contamination, Health Minister JP Nadda on Friday said this was leading to complications and even death and stressed the need for intensive co-ordination with various entities to ensure safe drinking water.
Cong Members show differences in RS
New Delhi: Two Congress MPs on Friday openly expressed differences in Rajya Sabha over the existence of bogus voters in the electoral roll, leaving others amused. P Bhattacharya (Cong) alleged during Question Hour that there were several instances of bogus names being included in the voters list, especially in the border areas of West Bengal, where “the list is replete with foreign names.” His party colleague, MS Gill, a former Chief Election Commissioner, immediately countered him saying the allegations were misplaced as the electoral rolls were revised every year after proper verification.

500 docs summoned for taking ‘favours’
New Delhi: The Medical Council of India has issued summons to more than 500 doctors upon complaints that they accepted inducements from pharmaceutical firms, the Government said. “MCI has informed it is in receipt of an anonymous complaint which has been referred by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemical and Fertilisers,” Health Minister JP Nadda said in the lok Sabha.
