Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Friday met striking Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital doctors and assured to fulfil their demands. Senior and junior resident doctors have been on strike since Monday demanding better security measures on the hospital premises and other issues since Monday after a junior resident doctor was allegedly manhandled in the hospital by relatives of a patient late onIJSunday night in the casualty department.
Jain said, “GTB Hospital doctors have been on strike and they had certain demands. I had a meeting with them and their demands have more or less been met.” As per the Minister, security was of major concern to these people on strike. “Their major demand was better security measures, especially in Emergency and ICU. They wanted CCTV cameras to be installed in the hospital which we have agreed to. In fact I spoke to the lieutenant Governor as well and it has been decided that the all major State Government hospitals will have CCTVs. Even more guards have been deployed,” said Jain.
Around 15,000 resident doctors at other 13 Government hospitals in Delhi joined the strike on Friday, causing inconvenience to hundreds of patients. Jain has said that the matter is under control as their demands were not unreasonable and are being met. A team of doctors from Central Government hospitals have also approached the Central Health Ministry with similar issues. “I will review the conditions in hospitals every month and the medical superintendants will take weekly review meetings,” explained Jain.
According to Jain, the problem is that too many attendants want to go in with the patient which creates chaos. “We have put a tab on how many attendants can accompany a patient now,” he said.
