'Come clean and order judicial enquiry'

Friday, 02 October 2015 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Asking Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to come clean with on a complaint alleging irregularities in awarding of advertisement contracts, leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Thursday said the CM should order judicial enquiry into the matter.

“It is all the more important because it is being alleged by some people that a prominent Delhi Government Minister’s close relative runs an advertisement agency to which the Delhi Government is very kind to. It is also widely observed that the quality of advertisement has also very badly gone down. The allegation needs to be probed for truth.  It is also been reported that in a section of media that Joint Commissioner of Police has received a complaint regarding Delhi Government advertisements,” said Gupta.

Gupta said the intention behind the Delhi Government for establishing a new advertisement agency “Shabdarth” to handle its publicity and advertisement campaign is doubtful.

“The Delhi Government has earmarked Rs526 crore budget during 2015-16 against Rs23 crores during 2014-15.  The logic behind this multiple increase as well as creating a new agency is beyond reasonable comprehension,” Gupta added.

The BJP leader also rubbished the claims of the rejoinder issued on Thursday by the Directorate of Information and Publicity, Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
