Palpable tension prevailed at the 300-year-old Baladevjew Temple here on Sunday morning among servitors as a non-Hindu official came close the Ratna Singhasan of the deity in the shrine.
As a result, the rites and rituals in the temple were abruptly stopped, informed Executive Officer of Baladevjew Temple Endowment Trust Board Niranjan Behera. The incident took place when a group of Indian Navy personnel paid a visit to the temple to have darshan of lord Baladevjew. Among them, a non-Hindu also entered near the Ratna Singhasan.
later, the priests and servitors nabbed the non-Hindu and took him to the endowment office. He was released as he apologised for entering into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, said Temple Supervisor Nrushingha Charan Patri.
The priests made all the cleansing and purification ceremony of the deity by burying the Amania Bhog that had been prepared for the deity before resuming the rites and rituals in the temple, stated Patri.
