The State Government has withdrawn its earlier recommendation for Central deputation of Director General of Police (DGP) Prakash Mishra on the plea of shortage of IPS officers in the police administration.
According to official sources, Home Secretary Vipin Saxena in a letter to the Union Home Ministry has requested to withhold the State Government’s recommendation in favour of DGP Mishra for a plum posting in the CBI or in any Central police establishments. The Union Government had sought the offer of Mishra, a 1977 batch IPS officer, for Central deputation in the last quarter of 2013. The Chief Minister had allowed Mishra for it in December last year.
Considering his efficiency and track record, Mishra was likely to be appointed in the Special CBI Director following the vacancy created since November 2013. Mishra had already served the Centre in various capacities in police establishments. Besides, he was the first Director General of the National Disaster Mitigation Authority.
However, with the change of guards at the Centre, the State Government withheld its recommendation on the pleas of lack of officers in higher echelon of the police administration. Besides, he proved his mettle as Director General of Police as far as controlling of law and order in the State, particularly in combating the Maoists, is concerned. According to official sources, as many as 80 posts in the rank of IPS are vacant against the sanctioned strength of 131.
