Friday, 31 October 2014 | Biswajeet/PNS | Lucknow

Amid opposition from senior leaders Samajwadi Party will decide on the re-entry of expelled leader and Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh into the party in the parliamentary board meeting to be held in Delhi on Friday.

“There is big no from our side. We do not want Amar Singh back in the party. On Wednesday he (Singh) had a long meeting with Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav). But we do not want him back in the party. The issue may be taken up for discussion on Friday’s parliamentary board meeting,” a senior leader told The Pioneer on telephone from Delhi on Thursday.

All the seven members of the parliamentary board have reached New Delhi. The eighth member- Akhilesh Yadav, who is permanent special invitee, will also attend the meeting.

Of the seven members, three namely Ram Gopal Yadav, Md Azam Khan and Kironmoy Nanda are dead against Amar Singh’s entry into the party. Sources said that Azam Khan held a meeting with Mulayam Singh on Wednesday after Amar almost two hour long meeting with SP leaders.

“Amar Singh has betrayed the party and Neta ji. He contested lok Sabha election and lost deposit. Now, he wants to be MP again so he is looking the Rajya Sabha route,” the senior leader said.

“Amar Singh is trying all the tricks in the bag to find his way to enter the party and get RS ticket, but almost all the leaders are opposed to it,” he said.

The term of 10 Rajya sabha seats from UP end on November 20. SP could win at least six out of the 10 RS seats in UP and parliamentary board’s meeting could decide the names. Of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant, only two belong to SP - Ram Gopal Yadav and Amar Singh.

Ram Gopal Yadav is certain to get the ticket, while names of remaining five would be decided in the meeting. SP may also send a minority face to the RS, besides several senior leaders like Ashok Bajpai and Reoti Ram Singh are vying for the RS ticket.

“The ball is in Neta ji’s court. He will have to take the final call.,” the leader said suggesting that he might even support Amar Singh as an independent.
