Solve woes of Tehri dam uprooted: CM

Problems being faced by people who were uprooted due to Tehri dam should be solved in a time-bound manner. Information should be provided to THDC about new issues emerging after conducting a survey. THDC will obtain directions from the Union Government on fresh allocation of funds and the State will also approach the Centre in this regard, said Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

Chairing a review meeting of Tehri Dam Project Coordination Sub Committee at Bijapur State Guest House on Friday, the Chief Minister further instructed officials concerned not to make any encroachment on lands allocated to the displaced. He further said the Fisheries department will retain the right to fish in the Tehri Reservoir and informed that for this, five sectors have been ear-marked and THDC has given its NOC on it.

Rawat instructed them to provide ownership right to the displaced persons in the Pathari Rehabilitatin site. For this Garhwal Commissioner, DM Tehri and THDC Official will prepare the proposal jointly the rehabilitation site in Roshanabad and the Government land in Suman Nagar would be transferred to the Rehabilitation Department so that displaced persons could be provided ownership.

Regarding improvement of agriculture land provided in District Haridwar to the displaced, it was decided that an action plan would be prepared according to the practicality. Government land near the Roshanabad rehabilitation site would be given to the Rehabilitation department for further development.

Unused and undeveloped land would also be developed in the area for which funds would be provided by THDC. It would also fund the construction of a security wall between the Haridwar’s Patthri land and the rehabilitation area. Similarly, security works would be carried out on the nullah in Barrage Colony and Aambagh Pashulok Rehabilitation site. The rehabilitation site in Shivalik Nagar, Haridwar, would be demarcated by the Revenue Department. For ex-gratia payment to the displaced persons, the CM proposed the formation of a revolving fund.

The THDC would pay the remaining amount for the completion of drinking water projects in the partially submerged areas. The Bhuvaneshwari Temple in Chinyalisaud and Pilkhi Shiv temple would be relocated elsewhere from the submergence area. The CM ordered construction of 20 sheds from where the motor boats plied for the transportation of displaced families. It was decided that THDC would construct five sheds every year from its CSR funds. The CM ordered the Tehri DM to get a geological survey done of the embankments and retaining walls constructed in New Tehri.

Buses and boats will continue to ply as before for the transportation of local people and school children in the cut-off areas. The CM also directed construction of temporary arrangements for those affected by sudden land subsidence during the rains. Other dignitaries including Cabinet Minister Pritam Singh Panwar, MlAs Dinesh Dhanai, Vikram Singh Negi, Bhimlal Arya, Commissioner, Garhwal, DS Garbyal, DM, Tehri, Nitesh Kumar Jha, THDC Director (Technical) DV Singh and other public representatives were present duting the meeting.
