A team of Sagar district election office on Tuesday seized Rs 8 lakh in cash from a vehicle. The cash was said to be used in the election expenses of Sagar lok Sabha Congress candidate Govind Singh Rajput.
Official sources said that during routine checking, the SST team of the district election office recovered the cash from a Tata Safari vehicle, bearing registration number MP 04 CC 4619, near Naryawali on Sagar-Bina highway.
Naib Tehsildar Nirmal Singh Rathore, who had reached the spot, said that during interrogation driver of the Tata Safari, Ranveer Singh Tomar, informed that the cash was to be delivered in Khurai, Bina and Shamshabad areas for election expenses of Congress candidate Govind Singh Rajput. He also provided details of the cash stating that he had withdrawn cash from a bank in Sagar.
Rathore informed that the vehicle was plying with the permission of election commission, but the permission was not with the vehicle.Meanwhile, Sagar district Congress spokesman Virendra Gaur said that the cash was being sent for election expenses in an authorised manner and there was nothing wrong in it.
Naryawali police station in-charge Dhan Singh Rajput informed that there were 14 bundles of Rs500 denomination and one bundle of Rs1,000 denomination. Since, the documents of the vehicle were up to the mark, the vehicle along with driver has been set free, while the officials were still investigating about the cash recovered from the vehicle.
The SST team of the election officer was headed by SN Jaiswal.
