Ram Sevak died at his ancestral home at Musafirkhana at Amethi

Veteran Congress leader from Amethi, who was record nine-time MlA from Jagdishpur Assembly constituency, Ram Sevak died at his ancestral home at Musafirkhana at Amethi following  prolonged illness on Monday evening. He was 92 and is survived by four daughters. He quit politics in last Assembly polls in 2012 and pushed his his grand-maternal son, Radhey Shyam, who won the seat and is now a sitting MlA.

“Ram Sewak was not keeping well since few months and passed away on Monday evening. He was cremated at his ancestral village in presence of senior Congress leaders on Tuesday” disclosed Radhey Shyam, who is MlA from Jagdishpur in Amethi district.

Ram Sevak first won the assembly polls in 1969 on the ticket of erstwhile Jana Sangh from Jagdishpur (reserved)  constituency.  He later joined Congress and barring in 1977, he won for eight times again from the same constituency in a row. Meanwhile, Congress vice president and Amethi, MP Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep grief over the demise of the former MlA. Gandhi. In his condolence message, Rahul narrated the former MlA as a “true friend of the weaker section who lived for the people”. Congress president, Sonia Gandhi also paid her rich tributes and said that the Party had lost a great leader, who served the people with full honesty. She claimed that Ram Sewak, was an inspiration for the present leaders and one should learn for him that politics is just about serving people with full devotion and honesty and nothing else. Priyana Vadra Gandhi, is also likely to visit Amethi later this week and would met the family members of Ram Sevek, to pay her homage and console the family members.

On the occasion of cremation of Ram Sevak at Amethi, MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjay Singh, former MPs Raj Karan Singh and Ram Singh, MlAs Rakesh Singh, Anup Sanda and several others paid their tributes. The MlA was known for his simple lifestyle and always used to travel by state transport buses. In lucknow, a condolence meeting was held here at Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee’s office on Tuesday afternoon.
