Prepaid auto service expands in Cuttack

Saturday, 31 May 2014 | PNS | CUTTACK

After getting encouraging feedbacks from the night prepaid auto-rickshaw service at the local railway station, the Commissionerate Police and the City Transport Committee on Friday extended this facility at the city bus terminus at Badambadi.

launching the facility, Twin City Commissioner of Police RP Sharma announced that the provision would subsequently be extended to some other places of the city like the SCB Medical College and Hospital and the Sishu Bhawan (Paediatric Hospital) vetting the feedbacks.

like at the railway station, the prepaid auto service at the bus terminus would be available from 10 pm in the night to 6 next morning. Initially, 25 three-wheelers have been selected to provide the service.

Sources said preference has been given to the owners who drive their own vehicles.

The police have identified at least 25 routes with over a hundred destinations for this service from the bus terminus with fixed fare ranging from Rs30 to Rs120.

The auto-rickshaws would ply to distances like the National law University at Naraj in the western limits and to destinations like Jagatpur and Khairapolo in the northern limits and Bhadimul and Kanheipur in the eastern limits.

It is expected that the facility would remove

the unsavoury incidents like arguments over unreasonable fares.

“The facility would also help significantly in curbing crime as the auto-rickshaw drivers would be under the scanner of the traffic police during their trip,” said a senior city cop.
