Parmarth niketan to hold global WASH summit

Monday, 24 November 2014 | PNS | Dehradun

The three-day-long global WASH summit on access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) will be organised by Parmarth niketan, Rishikesh from November 28 to 30.

Representatives of all religions, captains of industry, political luminaries, top entertainers and representatives from NGO’s, foundations and international bodies, including United Nations (UN) are going to participate in the summit dedicated to access of safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene for all.

“This high-level international  summit is being organised by Global Interfaith WASH Alliance, an NGO in collaboration with UNICEF to discuss ways and means to prevent various diseases and deaths related with no access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. Everyday several young girls and boys are dying which can be prevented with availability of potable water and sanitation. 61 million more in the country are suffering stunted growth and are failing to thrive. Millions further will fall sick with painful illnesses for the same reason.” said Swami Chidanand Saraswati, head of Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh And Co-Founder, Global Interfaith WASH Alliance.

“It is being organised at Rishikesh and will be attended by eminent religious leaders, decision makers and experts. The Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA), with the technical support of UNICEF is engaging everyone as allies to create a world where every human being has access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). GIWA was launched during the 2013 United Nations General Assembly Meetings at UNICEF Headquarters in New York under sponsorship of USAID and the Government of the Netherlands. Our vision is a water-secure world in which universal access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation and proper hygiene will be achieved by inspiring and equipping leaders to collaborate across faiths, nations, and populations for the health and well-being of all.” Saraswati added.
