NHRC seeks ATR in four weeks

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the School and Mass Education Secretary and the Phulbani SP on a sexual assault case to a girl student by a teacher within four weeks.

According to a complaint filed by Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain, on May 10 this year Kasturaba Gandhi Girls’ High School Headmaster Gurucharana Behera sexually abused  a student in his office.

The petitioner further alleged that the same headmaster has been abusing girl students of Classes IX and X regularly which amounts violation of human rights.

She urged the commission to initiate criminal proceeding against the Headmaster and the other concerned responsible for this unfortunate incident. She requested the commission to ensure a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim.
