Various important decisions were taken by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun executive committee during its meet here on Friday. Collection of house tax on rental basis, selecting four other sites in the city for establishment of vendor zones, revision of the tax charged from cinema halls and multiplexes, fixing the charge on buses parked at the old Raipur bus station and other decisions were taken at the executive meet. The estimated budget of about Rs123 crore for the year 2014-15 was also passed by the executive committee.
Chairing over the executive meet, Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli said that considering the fact that many people had turned the MCD compound into a free parking, the corporation should offer a contract for turning it into a paid parking. Executive member and Congress councillor Jagdish Dhiman pointed out that this might prove problematic for the citizens visiting MCD for getting various important works done.
Responding to this the Mayor said that parking charge would be kept nominal to prevent public inconvenience. Statingthat the corporation is expected to earn Rs10 lakh from renting out the Town Hall for various programme, the Mayor pointed out that though cultural organisations can be given a rebate in the hall rent, prominent NGOs and other organisations with considerable finances should not be given any rebate.
He said that the MCD board members should also change their attitude and desist from seeking rebate fororganisations that can afford the Town Hall rent. Connecting a generator to the hall, separate power connection and providing a UPS will further improve the hall where the sound system is also in need of improvement. During discussion on the Sunday market held near the Parade Ground, the Mayor said that the police and some municipal staff were responsible for anomalies here.
It was decided that four sites would be marked in the city for establishing vendor zones which would be used for Sunday market and fruits-vegetable vendors. It was also proposed that multiplexes will be charged Rs5,000 tax per show while cinemas will be charged Rs2,500 per show.
The Mayor suggested and the executive members agreed to the proposal for developing facilities for buses plying to mountainous regions from the old Raipur bus stand adjoining Parade Ground, for which the MCD will charge the bus operators. Taking cognisance of complaints by executive members about anomalies in roads being dug up by private companies, the Mayor said that municipal junior engineers will undertake a survey to check the road cutting on municipal roads.
