All the development and beautification works being carried out at Mahadev Ghat of Kharun River for developing it as tourism-cum-picnic destination are in full swing.
The Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Brijmohan Agrawal had already visited the site and reviewed progress of the ongoing construction works.
The Minister, during his visit to the site, was informed about completion of Anicut work at Mahadev Ghat while all other development works including pathway, garden and widening of stairs at the bank are in last stage of completion.
District Collector Thakur Ram Singh, Corporator of Madhavrao Sapre Ward, Dinbandhu Singh Thakur and officials from different departments concerned accompanied the Minister during his visit.
The Minister reminded the officials concerned that the bank occupies an important place among the pilgrims and tourists and is famous for organizing many religious and cultural events here. Thus, there is a need of giving preference to maintaining cleanliness and increasing greenery around the spot. Chief Minister Raman Singh has issued a sum of Rs 20 crores for carrying out different development and beautification works at Mahadev Ghat to give it a facelift.
On the occasion, Agrawal issued instructions of developing a ‘laxman Jhula’ (an iron suspension bridge) at the bank and completing all the construction works within a year. At the security points of the visitors, the officials were asked to erect iron pipes at downstairs of the bank and put chains with it.
The Minister also visited the spot marked for immersion of Ganesh idols at the bank and issued instructions to develop a cement concrete platform and a parking lot for the devotees. As a part of the project, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has also initiated works to beautify the crematory situated at the bank. A huge entrance gate, tin-sheds, condolence hall, guard room, public toilets and other construction works are underway at the site.
He also asked the officials concerned from Durg district administration to remove unwarranted soil from other side of the river (opposite to Mahadev Ghat) under MNREGA.
