The demand of the students for increase of seats in degree courses of the Khariar Autonomous College would be fulfilled in the current session.
The Higher Education Department has agreed to increase the number of seats in the +3 science class from the present 64 to 128. likewise, the number of seats in +3 Arts would also be enhanced from 192 to 256.This was revealed by the department’s Regional Director, Sambalpur Prashanta Mahapatra on Thursday at Khariar. Mahapatra visited the college for an inspection for submitting his recommendation to the department on enhancement of seats.
“I am convinced that the college deserves enhancement of seats,” he said, adding that the college has the requisite infrastructure and staff strength for seat enhancement.The students had stalled the admission process for two days when the first selection list was out, demanding enhancement of seats.The agitation was stopped after the Minister and Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department gave assurance that the seats would be increased.
Members of the District Press Club, local MlA Duryodhan Majhi, educationist Fanindam Deo and local leaders of political parties like Sanjay Tiwari, Fakir Mohan Jagat and Nimai Charan Tandi had also discussed with the department officials and the Education Minister to appraise them about the need of students.
