IGH docs save mentally deranged woman

Tuesday, 25 March 2014 | PNS | ROURKELA

An abandoned woman suffering from severe psychiatric problems got a new lease of life thanks to the efforts of the doctors of the Psychiatric Ward of Ispat General Hospital (IGH). It is noteworthy that the woman was brought to the IGH by the police and some local volunteers after being referred to by ADM, Rourkela.

The patient was very violent and had assaulted the locals in the Basanti Colony area. She also broke the SBI ATM door in the area throwing stones. After due care by the doctors and nurses of the IGH, she is behaving in a normal manner and is able to take care of herself.  Dr SK Acharya, Senior Consultant In-charge Psychiatry, IGH, carried out the treatment. It is worth mentioning here that the Psychiatric Ward of the IGH does not have the facilities to treat patients with symptoms of extreme aggression and violence. However, keeping in view the exigency, the IGH collective rose to the challenge and helped in the speedy recovery of the patient. Although the details of the background of the patient are still unknown, she claims her name to be Parvati Kumari. A leading voluntary organization of the district DISHA was involved in the care of the patient.
