A Hindi play, ‘Ek Aur Damini’ describing the pain and grief of a rape victim, was staged here on Wednesday at Shaheed Bhawan Auditorium.
Notably, the play was staged with an initiative to help the victims of Kashmir flood. The event was organised by Youngs Theatre Group (Artist and Cultural Foundation), Bhopal in collaboration with Muslim Rashtariya Manch (Cultural Cell) Madhya Pradesh.
Further, this play is dedicated to Damini rape case and to all the females who go through the similar situations and struggle to overcome the nightmare. The story of the play follows the incident that took place at Satna. Wonderfully, the artists have showcased the grief of the victim and what circumstances she goes through after she faces the crime.
Not only the criminal spoils the life of the victim, but the administration and the society also ruins her self confidence. She has to go through so many ups and downs after being a victim of one of the most shameful crimes. Notably, all these aspects were covered in the play giving a thought to the audience that is only a single person is responsible for shaping the crime and leaving the victim with no option.
The rag picker Manji, becomes a victim of this crime. She come across the crucial parts of life after she faces molestation and then her friend Nandu becomes a source of support for her. What all she goes through and how she overcomes it, forms rest of the story of the play.
Written by a noted playwright of the city Yogesh Tripathi, the play is directed by Sarfaraz Hassan. Further as many as 26 artists of Youngs Theatre Group performed wonderfully on stage. Earlier the play was known as ‘Manji’, but after the Delhi case some manipulations were done in the scenes and named it as Ek Aur Damini.
The heavy dialogues and the skillful performance by the artists made the audience watch the play with rapt attention.
