The Bharat Raksha Manch on Friday submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir urging him to direct the State Government to take adequate steps to prevent infiltration of Bangladeshis into the State. As per the Manch’s estimate, nearly 5,000 Bangladeshis are crossing over illegally into India every day of which an average of 500 slip into Odisha.
Manch secretary Murali Manohar Sharma said his organisation has been conducting a yearly study on such daily influx of around 500 illegal Bangladeshis into the porous coastal villages in the State. Many places in the Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur coasts have become a mini-Bangladesh as the migrants’ population keeps increasing every year, he said.
He also accused political parties of patronising illegal Bagladeshis for their vested interests. With the State Government having turned a blind eye to the problem over the years, the infiltrators have got ration cards, voter identity cards, Aadhaar cards and BPl cards. Some of them have even got Government jobs, said Sharma.
The Manch has conducted a survey in 72 towns and cities of the State and detected presence of Bangladeshi immigrants in 54 places. They are even working as security guards in vital Government institutions, the Manch alleged.
The Manch office-bearer and members had taken an oath to drive out the infiltrators from the country at a Sankalpa Divas at the Buddha Mandir here on Thursday.
