Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday gave his nod to give due representation to children and grand children of freedom fighters in various district level welfare committees.
The Chief Minister’s nod came on the proposal, mooted by the Freedom Fighters’ secretary, realising the problem of ageing and fragile health of freedom fighters, as nearly 500 of them have already crossed the age of 85 and were unable to represent themselves in these committees, said a spokesman of the state government.
Therefore, the State Government has now decided to give due representation to children and grand children of the freedom fighters in their place. Badal also approved the proposal to extend free traveling facility in the state-run air-conditioned buses to freedom fighters and their legal heirs, added the spokesman.
