Direct entry for toppers in engg, medical colleges urged

Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) Chairperson Anand Bhushan on Friday urged the State Government to make provisions for the direct admissions of the toppers in the state-owned engineering and medical colleges.

Bhushan, who has scripted the turnaround story for class X and XII results this year, pointed out that several states have adopted such provisions in order to give a boost to intermediate students to perform better.

"So, Jharkhand should also get the provision of direct admission in the state engineering and medical colleges," he said on the occasion of declaration of intermediate arts results. HRD Minister Geetashree Oraon was also present on the occasion.  The State runs BIT, Sindri and has certain quota in BIT, Mesra and owns three medical colleges in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad.

Besides, the JAC Chairman also stressed that ten per cent of the marks secured by students in class IX should be counted to work out their results in class X and subsequently for class XII students. "This will make the students studying in State-owned schools serious from class IX and ultimately help them in cracking various competitive examinations," he added.

"In 2013, I had recommended this plan but to no avail. I again request the HRD Minister to look into the matter and take necessary step accordingly," added Bhushan. While applauding the student efforts and extending his best wishes for their upcoming future, Bhushan added, "The result of arts faculty is more impressive this year as compared to that of previous year. The pass percentage in 2013 was 72.92 per cent which has increased to 83.16 per cent this year, attributing to a leap of around ten per cent. The performance of the students is the outcome of joint efforts put in by the JAC, teachers and students."

Meanwhile, Oraon responding to Bhushan's appeal assured him to take the initiative for the same. She said, "the HRD Department will leave no stone unturned to implement these suggestions as soon as possible. I will call a meeting with the department officials to discuss the matter soon."On the issue of admission of top five students in engineering and medical colleges Oraon said, "The department will ensure that like other states toppers in Jharkhand too could apply for direct admission in engineering and medical colleges."
