The work of widening of the Tankapani Road in the city has been delayed, raising eyebrows over the link between the RNB Division-I and the contractor for the work.
In June 2013, two contract agencies on behalf of the RNB had made agreements for widening of the road stretched over 1,040 meter from the Ravi Talkies Square along with the drainage work. The work was scheduled to be completed in March this year.
While an expenditure of `2.4 crore was sanctioned for the work, an amount of 2.39 crore has been given to a company for construction of only 760 meter of road from the Jagannath Ashram to the Tankapani Gangua Nala bridge along with the drainage work. Even after this, the work is yet to be done, thanks to the nexus between the RNB and the contractor, alleged a member of the Bhubaneswar Yuva Manch.
Adding to the woes, the partly-constructed road is of low quality and several accidents are taking place on the thoroughfare. The Manch has appraised the Khordha Collector, theUrban Development Secretary and the Chief Minister about the issue and demanded that higher authorities probe into the matter and take steps in this regard.
